I am having the same problem on a Dell XPS 1210 notebook running Edgy
(2.6.17-10-generic). The system locks up only when booting with the
ipw3945 kill switch turned on.

1. playing streaming media doesn't work as well as xine
(especially wmv streaming media) - in many cases - not at

I have dhcp3-server and firestarter installed
Changing both occurences of "/etc/init.d/dhcpd" to "/etc/init.d/dhcp3-server"
in 112-121 of /etc/firestarter/firestarter.sh did not solve this problem for
me..
I still get:
Failed to start the firewall
An Unknown error occured
Also "ln -s /etc/init.d
I suspected linux-restricted-modules to be the source of the problem, so
I built kernel 2.6.17.14 with the default config, but without MOL (for
convenience) and without linux-restricted-modules. I then removed the
following packages

Today' iso build 20070127 of the amd64 desktop iso has the same old
herd2 bug during installation - it can create partitions but cannot
format them. The machine freezes totally with 100% cpu.
This bug was fixed and reappeared just today - all this week's builds
were OK.

After further investigation, I believe my problem is related to Bug
#61407 - I always got the message "stopping tasks timed out after 20
seconds", then the ThinkPad tries to resume, but the laptop display
stays off. Reconnecting to the docking station enables the external
display which is connected
Can you please attach the files found in /va/log/dist-upgrade to this
bug report.

This bug has been declared as fixed, however I did not manage to see any
improvement when testing all this week's (up to Jan 26) builds of amd64
desktop, which has built-in gnome-app-install version 0.3.6
Might be a particularity of amd64 and/or my testing in vmware.
