The reason this happens is because Ubuntu now uses a non-bash /bin/sh by
default known as dash. In order to get it to work the way you want, you
need to relink /bin/sh to /bin/bash instead of /bin/dash.

automatically reconnect when i brought the laptop out of standby. The

console mode and fglrx), I have looked back for old bug. In bug 33827,

sudo usermod -aG plugdev cupsys
and then:
sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart
and then the printers show up, but on restart of the computer they're not there
again and you have to run the command again. what's this all about? surely easy

packages I had cached gets rid of the problem. So I think this must be a
bug generated by one of the new security patches.

the character code for '!', which is an invalid character for UNIX
filenames. I wonder if gnome search is interpreting
I've been playing with XFCE lately, and it seems that if I use the Human theme
in XFCE the progress bar is still invisible.
(So this invisible progress bar happens in both Gnome and XFCE).

"plucker" package cannot be installed, it depends on netpbm that doesn't
exist:

I've updated the Build-Depends. Also killing the build were a few

Edgy too; of course
