the system boots normally after this but just gives the error before
booting, it messes up the booting experience cuz you go from the boot
screen to this black screen with text then a couple of seconds later a
login screen (or bootup). this bug is really just an annoyance, but one

I have the same problem with 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation
82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) IDE Controller (rev 04) (prog-if 8a
[Master SecP PriP]). Switch to 2.6.19 doesn't help. I didn't try earlier
kernels yet. DMA worked before last update (switch to 2.6.20 + something
else)

Yes, but then aren't you defeating the whole purpose of getting the
faster speeds of the SATA settings. I bought two (2), WD Raptor HD's,

I have an apple iBook G3 700Mhz and I installed Ubuntu Edgy Eft on it. I
noticed that the battery seems to discharge in half the time that it
lasts in OS X. I think this is a problem with the entire infrastructure,
so I don't know what package to file this under.

This happens with edgy on a Sony Vaio SZ laptop that has to graphics
cards: a i965 and an nvidia, that can be switched at reboot.
If nvidia-glx is installed in the system, the 3D accel on the i810
config won't work anymore. If nvidia-glx is removed, then it works
again.
I can confirm this bug on HP nw8240 with latest initramfs-tools update.
Workaround from Ben works.
Note: I was able to boot older (2.6.19-7) kernel even with latest initramfs
tools.

I completely formatted (physically) the Hard Drive with Windows before
trying to install Ubuntu and also no chance.
Any suggestion about how I could test the hd for errors?

I can't burn with k3b or baker with my normal user.
But: Right click on a *.iso file in nautilus, then "burn cd"works!

Like Helge said, the latest package is still 1.4.1-4. If Sam is not the

It sounds like Vlad's bug resulted more from messing with the folders
while Amarok was scanning, but Dave's has more to do with remote files
than changing the files themselves. As long as you stay away from the
folders while they're being scanned, you should be good.

I can confirm the same problem on a Toshiba A100-TA6, where in Edgy the
right Alt key does not work, and gives ISO_Level3_Shift.
Commenting out the XkbOptions line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf solved this
problem.
