I have a very similar problem with Kubuntu 6.06 running on a Toshiba
Satellite L25-S119 laptop. Changing the time settings makes it
impossible to call up any application that requires administrative
privileges as a "KDE su" failure is reported.
Changing the time settings also disables pcmciautils

I have this problem as well. I downloaded all the patches and got them
installed and my CPU still goes up to 100% and stays there until reboot.
I can reproduce this problem by just open Firefox, OpenGL apps, and a
few other programs. Any other ideas?

This seems to fix the issue for me. Tested on Feisty
wxwidgets2.6_2.6.3.2.1.5build2 with attached patch. Very simple and trivial
patch, should be easy to backport for other distros if necessary.

On my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A with Edgy the kernel options noapic,
nolapic, acpi=off and irqpoll don't help this problem. Neither does
removing hplip packages.
What's interesting is that the computer always hangs immediately if I
switch on the Canon bubble jet printer connected to the USB port.

I have this problem too. After several seconds, to a minute, my CPU usage will
go up to 100% and stay there and my PC runs extremely slow.
But this also happens with other applications, but Firefox is the only program
that I've been able to reproduce this problem with. Whatever flash, java, and

well, this bug is not confined to powerpc systems, and it still exists
on all machines that are upgraded from breezy to edgy. Please confirm
this bug and push it out to the X11 maintainers so they can check for
the condition of an upgrade and do something intelligent about the font
