I have updated to maxima 5.9.2-2ubuntu2 (dapper-proposed). Both wxmaxima and
xmaxima are now working properly. I tried most of the tests that come with the
package, plus some calculus and plotting comands, with complete success. Thanks
to all that helped!

Well guys it has to be with the ATI drivers on the CD of Ubuntu. I
installed a 5700VE Nividia AGP with 256 ddr ram built on to the card. I
put in the Ubuntu Live 6.10 and it started perfect without trouble. I

There is no check for whole disks assigned as a member of a raid array.
It caused very slow boot on my box.
My box is set up with four sata and one pata disks. The ata disk contains two
pratitons: hda1 for root filesystem and hda2 for the swap. All
$ stty --file /dev/hvc0 speed
38400
However, the hvc devices ignore the speed parameter - no handler for
ioctl() is registered.

Actually, what I meant for "installed AIGLX" was that I had started
beryl. I did that running beryl-manager from a terminal.
My video card is: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics

This isn't a HDA controller, but it should be supported by the atiixp
driver. Looking at sound/pci/atiixp.c in the edgy source tree shows it
supports that pci id (0x1002:0x4370), and the driver is enabled in the
i386 configs. Can you provide (in seperate attachments) lsmod, and
dmesg? If you manual
