I have noticed that if the laptop is powered and is doing something (for
example, amarok's playing a file), performance is also normal.
So there must be some issues in how the acpi thing is allocating
resources when the laptop is powered and mostly idle.
Performance is normal if I deactivate ACPI
I have no crash here on the same page. I use firefox 2 on feisty (ubuntu
version).

I have a Dimension E521 and have experienced the same problems as
everyone else. I have my mouse and keyboard attached to the usb ports in

Yes, I did. In tests I discovered that the gnome-terminal only break

The solution does not work anymore. The problem came back after I switched my
session to enlightenment and then back to gnome.
Removing .gnome2 folders doesn't solve the issue anymore.

I just discovered one minor bug in my patch: the returncode-check is
somewhat useless now as it would check only the rc of the last
usplash_write command in case we have usplash running.

I sometimes use the "Switch User" facility in gnome. It works fine,
allowing me to login again with a different user. When I exit the second
login to go back to the first sometimes the computer locks up. There was
nothing in the logs so I guess it just locked up before writing
