ACPI Hibernate (or Suspend-2-Disk) doesn't work especially well on my
Thinkpad T60p. It sometimes wakes up, but it takes really long, and I
don't necessarily get all my drivers back (including wireless

Scratch that. rc13-0ubuntu1 DOES populate /dev/mapper, but does not activate
dmraid. Need to look into this more.. If I boot with break=mount, and manually

Seems it's not related to x session manager.
Firefox just starts as normal, but every other app I tried (gnome-terminal,
mahjongg, gaim) doesn't start.
When I switch to a different console and run something like:
DISPLAY=:0 gnome-terminal
It starts normally...
How weird is that?

Thanks for the info. At the moment, I'm holding off on using Edgy
because of the "emergency hard drive parking" issue (which happened in
Dapper, too). They say hd's are only rated for so many of those. But
if they get that working, I'll try your SD card fix and give it a run.

I experienced exactly the same and the problem was that the `rpc.statd'
wasn't running on the _server_. Fixing this, OpenOffice.org works fine
again.
Nevertheless I support that having a hanging / crashed OpenOffice.org in such a
situation is not a valid thing.

I've noticed, that in Ubuntu main there is only one, buggy (look at lots
of crash-reports in launchpad) and unmaintained graphical ftp client -
gftp. Gftp was abandoned by upstream - the latest version is almost 2
year old ! Besides this, gftp is not user-friendly :(

This bug is already fixed in Feisty. I think this is a perfect candidate
for backporting to Edgy *and* Dapper (please open a new ticket for

If I plug my laptop (Sony VAIO VGN-FS285M) to the mains, graphics
performance drops by a ten fold. Playing a simple, low resolution XviD
video file is choppy and 3D is also very poor.

Well there are only 15 open bugs against gftp in launchpad. Late October
2006 isn't very long for main rather than universe. There are plenty of
ftp packages in universe.
According to http://gftp.seul.org/ the last release was April 2005 - so
18 months ago. This doesn't mean it's been abandoned -
