If I install Macromedia Flash, gmail.google.com kills the browser. If I

You need to be careful with manual partitioner. Make sure to have a
separated /boot (even on raid1 is fine) and another raid for /. /boot
needs to be at the beginning of the disk and possibly not bigger than
4GB (usually 512MB are ok).
You want to note 2 things. The very first partition cannot be

"echo "options snd-via82xx dxs_support=2" |sudo tee -a
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base"
and now all seems to work good. No more "cpu overload" and sound working in all
apllications.

Thanks for your response. It may be related but is not a duplicate. The
install process takes place w/out any problems, including ejection of the
disk and reboot after that.
It's during normal operation after installation that restart does not take

I have Matrox Millenium P750 AGP graphics adapter - I can confirm this

(machine is a T43 IBM laptop). When the machine boots it complains that
the swap partition (in my case /dev/sda10) is not in the correct format,

Yes. I just downloaded it from the Ubuntu site. I also tried Xubuntu and got
the exact error as above.

Edgy Eft Desktop CD will not work with my Voodoo 3 PCI card. I have to
install with the text based installer and change the xorg.conf from the
tdfx driver to the vesa driver. Then all is well.
Xorg.0.log does not seem to list any useful info.

Live CD unusable with HP Pavillion desktop du
I have the same problem. After dist-upgrade 6.06 -> 6.10. It's possible
to boot the system with the old dapper kernel (2.4.15-27). The live CD
also dosen't work.

Edgy nvidia driver problems

My problem was with the anjuta, and I did it:
# dpkg -i --force-all
/var/cache/apt/archives/anjuta_2.0.2-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
And next
# apt-get -f install
Finily
# apt-get dist-upgrade;

This happens to me in Edgy final. My syslog gets swamped with these
messages ever since my first reboot after upgrading. Running
2.6.17-10-generic.
