After reading about a recent root exploit that used the /proc filesystem
and could have been stopped by applying restrictive permissions to the
filesystem I decided to check my ubuntu machine.
All the filesystems set up by ubuntu itself (/dev, /proc, /sys,
/var/run, /var/lock
Indeed this sounds like an unintrusive, but effective change. We should
confine this to new installs, though.

"USB DISK" is not a string invented by Ubuntu, but rather the volume
name of the vfat partition on your USB stick. That said, any spaces
really should be replaced by underscores or something..

I just updated from Breezy to Dapper and have come across this issue.
The Dapper upgrade has installed the 2.6.15.26-386 kernel image and
since then, the computer is almost unusable at initial bootup and the

I've nailed down the problem a bit further. This seems to be some
strange permissions problem.
1. When I delete all contents (including hidden files) from a newly-
created test user's home and then log in as that user (using KDE) and
start firefox, everything works fine. Opening file pickers works
Solution is to make install-css.sh executable.

You are right, "USB DISK" is volume name, created by usb stick
manufacturer. I missed that. It will good idea to replace spaces with
undercore in such case.
