of course I did update the apt db like suggested, with internet
access... I'll give it another try in a few days.

this seems to not work for me (using AMD64 desktop cd) due to problems
with ubitquity:
$ sudo apt-get install debconf ubiquity
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
debconf is already the newes
