Since I upgraded to 13.04, everything is just fine again. No need of any
extra parameters in grub file.

I added this line and it works for me EXCEPT that I get a lower resolution.
I had 1366
I did the same exact thing and I got the same exact results. I have to
press FN and the left arrow key to get the back light on.

Thank you for that. I will have to take my laptop to someone who can do it
because I have no clue as to how to do it.
Thank you again.

Hello,
I just learned that Ubuntu 12.10 has been released. Is the backlight bug
still an issue with this release? On my emachine 525 the backlight goes
out once the update starts to install. I am not able to see to complete
the installation.
Thank you.

Thank you for responding, but would you please provide a little more detail
as to where and how I add the boot parameter? Step by step instructions
would be nice if it's not too much trouble.
Thank you.

Afternoon,
I have been following this issue because I have not been able to use my
laptop since April when 10.10 expired.
If I try to install 11.10 on my e-machine now, will I have a backlight? I
have no clue as to how to do the work-a-rounds.
Thanks.

If there is a work around to this issues would someone* please* be so kind
and write the instructions in common every day English so that I can use my
laptop. 10.10 is no longer supported and I have not used it since. I
really do need it for school. Thank you.
