I just upgraded to 9.10 and this no longer appears to be a problem.
It's possible, however, that I have something in my configuration that is
acting as a workaround (this was an upgrade, not a reinstallation), and I
would be interested to hear if someone with a clean install could test it.

Confirmed in 8.10. The -p workaround (

OK, so its not the nvidia bug. Anyway, try editing /usr/bin/compiz. Its
a shell script. There is a line that says:
INDIRECT='no'
Change 'no' to 'yes', log out, log back in, and see if the bug persists.
