Update:
I Just had the same problem on a KDE desktop that was running the generic
kernel. On reboot, ended up with 386 kernel.
Followed instructions on wiki
do-release-upgrade returned "no updates found" or similar lingo
edited /etc/apt/sources.list by changing feistly >> gutsy
aptitude full-upg
