Iptables isn't something you "install", it's part of the kernel. You have to have it enabled, but by default, it has no rules defined: $ sudo /sbin/iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source
