I was having the same issue with a Python applet I work with. Works
fine in Gnome Shell 3.2 Fedora 16 or on Precise's Gnome Sessions 3.4
with Unity. But not Precise with Gnome Shell 3.4. The applet has an
installer that writes the .destop file. It shows up in Startup
Applications and all looks
Look at /etc/xdg/autostart/ for example autostart desktop files. I
believe after changing .desktop files, you'll need to run sudo update-
desktop-database.

How exactly did you try to add an autos
So my problem was guake did not start up. After searching more on google
I found this which works:
