The problem for me seems to have disappeared with later upgrades in
12.04 (12.04.2 & 12.04.3). So far, no problem with 13.04. Just installed
13.10. Have yet to test printing with on the Ricoh MPC 2051.

Has this been addressed since then? I'm still experiencing this issue on
12.04.2 LTS, latest updates with cups. My duplexing option will never
stick for any printer (Long Standard), always defaults to Single even
after applying/purging cups/reinstalling cups/reinstalling Ubuntu.

from console when loptions shows "Normal" has no more effects. One has to use
