I had similar issue with Plantronics usb headset on Ubuntu 12.04.2. After
reinstalling half of my system I came accros a slider in alsa mixer which did
the thing.
Here is what I did. After opening alsa mixer, pressed F6, selected Plantronics
.Audio 622 USB. It showed two sliders: one for the Spe
My USB headset works for a while and I see it disappear and suddenly
sound comes out of built in speakers. After a minute or so, the sound
comes back into my usb headset at full volume. When I watch the devices
in the sound settings output tab, I can see my plantroics usb headset
appear and disap

Same problem here, "usb headset detected (both in the sound settings and by
lsusb)". Plugged out the headset, killed all pulseaudio and plugged it in and
bingo! it works.

I had the same issue just after upgrading to 64 bit ubntu 12.04: usb
headset detected (both in the sound settings and by lsusb), but no
sound. I managed to get it working after restarting pulesaudio (killall
pulseaudio) and fooling around with the sound settings and the
pulseaudio volume control f
