I am also facing problem in dell xps l502x on ubuntu 12.10. subwoofer
volume is very high so getting ticking sound from woofer. is there any
way to lower the woofer volume.

I had the revelation of sticking my ear near the subwoofer grille
today... and it's also working, despite having no interface to control
it. (I was just a bit surprised at how crappy the sound was, even with a
subwoofer!)

This also affect my Dell XPS 17 (L702X), also running Ubuntu 12.04. I
also see the subwoofer volume control as greyed out in the system
