Id2ndR, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

I have the same problem on intel graphics. No info in syslog, but its
looks like [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] error before kernel 3.8.0-31.

This issue impacts me multiple times a week. Sometimes the mouse
continues to work but other times the mouse freezes also. I have not yet
tried to open a teminal as suggested by bduncan (comment #13) but I am
usually able to switch to the first terminal and kill compiz.

This is a Compiz issue - it doesn't seem to be related to my video
drivers at all. Running 12.04LTS on HP 8570w (Nvidia K1000 - just in

nvidia). However - this problem seems to appear relatively randomly,

I have been watching and waiting for a solution for a long time. I have
also tried to determine where the error is, without success. I have
determined that the lock up occurs when selecting icons from the Unity
menu in 3D. The menu slides out from the left, while the mouse hovers,

Similar problem on Lenovo T420.
Sometimes switching to console and back to X seems to wakeup everything.
Normally the mouse can still move on the screen, just nothing happening.
Looking through my logs i found a couple of error messages in syslog.

Looks like that my PC is affected too. I can add that I noticed that

Unity/compiz freez
I think this could help. The bug just appeared again as I was within a
gnome classic (WITH effects) with my ubuntu 12.04 64 bits.
So it looks like it's really a issue of compiz and not really a bug in
unity.

I use a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits, and when I log under
