reboot without exception. Is there anything I can attach to help?

Title:
tried the "reboot=pci" fix suggested above. computer still hangs when
shutting down as described above. HOWEVER, i swear the fix suggested has
made my computer more responsive. is it my imagination or does anyone
else notice that their computer runs faster by adding "reboot=pci" ?

Till now I can say, that this workaround doesn't work on my machine. But
what i figured out is, that the shudown hangs if the computer runs long.
If I try to shutdown it right after logging on, system shut down fine.

Ok, eventually I found a fix for this, which should work for many Dell
machines (and this is important for remotely controlled machines as a
reboot would otherwise require a manual intervention or a power-cycle).
To fix it, I simply had to add the following kernel parameter to the
