Just found out that this but only appears if nautilus is set to
listview. This bug is still present in Ubuntu 12.10.

thanks for your bug report. I just enabled autohide on my install and
tried the steps that you provided more than 4 times and the issue didn't
happen. Can you please test with fully update Ubuntu 12.04 and let us
know if the issue is actually fixed for you.
