Hi
If you're still affected by this bug, could you attach the ~/.xsession-errors

I was able to get my plasma-desktop starting up properly again by going
into System Settings/Advanced/Autostart. The entry for plasma-desktop
was present but not enabled. All I had to do was tick the box.
So in my case at least, the bug is that something unticked that box.

Same problem here. Several KDE packages had been removed, probably by
using the package manager informing about updates in the systray
(muon?).
I attach the term.log and history.log of /var/log/apt/.

Here installing kde-workspace-bin did resurect the plasma-workspace
option in the menu, which lead to a successful login. I have no idea why
the kde-workspace-bin package was uninstalled.

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the same bug. I am using KUBUNTU 12.04 kernel
3.2.0.23-generic. Yesterday Thu. May 23 I updated to the latest
.24-generic version, then after logging in I could not see KDE Plasma-
workspace and Plasma-workspace (failsafe) sessions. All I got were
Default and Failsa
I'm not sure what else you might need in the way of system info, but
here's this:
$ uname -a
Linux grst01 2.6.32-41-generic #88-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 29 13:10:32 UTC 2012
x86_64 GNU/Linux

After turning off rotation on the second monitor and clearing some junk
from the launcher menu, I still have to start plasma-desktop manually,
but the messages are reduced to the following:
$ plasma-desktop
QDBusObjectPath: invalid path ""
Connecting to deprecated signal
QDBusConnectionInterface:
Further info:
When I log out and back in, the second monitor displays rubbish.
When I run plasma-desktop manually, I get the following messages:
$ plasma-desktop
QDBusObjectPath: invalid path ""
Connecting to deprecated signal
QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
This is also happening for me on 10.4 LTS. (I want to update to the new
LTS, but I'm reluctant to do it on a broken system).
There are a number of things that have happened since the last successful
reboot that could have been the trigger:
- Added a second monitor
- Ran out of disk space while I
