Ok, here's how it functions now. default boot (or safe graphics mode): no video output, ubuntu continues loading(the CD-rom is accessed) but eventually it often beeps like crazy specified resolution: the loading image is off, but ubuntu then proceeds to work fine. Attached is an image of what the
