I'm still experiencing this issue. Here's the error I'm getting:
(cheese:): Gdk-WARNING **: The program 'cheese' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'GLXBadRenderRequest'.
(Details: serial 1113 error_code 174 request_code 153 minor_
Since a software upgrade (I don't know which one) Cheese load properly for me
(this bug also affected me in the past).
I set the bug status to incomplete while you check if Cheese works properly for
you.
