Hi Sujo,
The active port should flip between "Internal Mic" and "Microphone" as
you unplug and plug the external microphone; but I've seen once that if
and only if the gnome sound settings are open, sometimes "Line In" gets
selected instead.
Is this what you're seeing as well?

Resolved the issue. Its is not a bug actually. I noticed that, in the
sound setting->input the recording device was set to Line-in instead of
microphone. It could be a feature issue. My recording device was set to
internal microphone before I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2.
