Can this bug be marked as duplicate of Bug #134660 which already has a
lot of duplicates, or of Bug #139070 which has a higher priority? Trying
to help cleaning, and get more developer's attention with this old

It worked! :D
I used wpa2 with aes, truncated the key to 20 characters and it sprang
to life. Although with this method I have to use the key i inputed into
the router directly instead of using wpa_passphrase to
generate a code to use in the interfaces file.

2) DLINK DWL-G122 H/W ver C1, F/W Ver 30 Dongle
I have the latest serial monkey driver from the daily CVS and it still
produces a hardlock with the lights flashing on the keyboard. What are
you doing diffe
I also have a D-link DWL-G122 C1 usb pen. The rt73usb.ko module doesn't
work for me at all, even when no encryption is used (I had a very
unstable connection ones with a lot of messages in dmesg and I had to be
really close to the access point). I switched to the driver rt73.ko from
the ralink site
the rt73usb driver is still not working for static connections, although it
works for dhcp, It seems there is a problem with routing to hosts even when
configured properly

My dlink stick works fine in 7.10
Gnome network manager still scrambles the WPA password
Program WICD works 100% properly keeping the password, so I have deleted gnome
network manager in favour of WICD.
Google search for WICD will find it.

Same problem here with my Belkin F5d7050-4 rev 3002:

I would still prefer that they just pick the driver (with source) form the

That driver just works, the only problem is that it shows up as a wired nic in
network manager and you have to configure the ssid and key in a text file
"/etc/Wireless/RT73STA/rt73sta.dat"

There is not a small bug I just was not using network manager properly.
Once set up then if using wifi you get asked for wpa key as is right.

I agree with Peter (progress!) - I put Tribe 3 on, works reasonably
well with my MSI stick - problems started happening and I've come to
the conclusion that the card is faulty. I've bought 2 new rt73 sticks
to do some serious testing. Results after my exams...

Progress
The usb Wifi works out of the box on Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 3 you do of
course have to set up the WPA via network manager.
But there is still a small bug during closedown or bootup the password
for WPA gets corrupted and has to be reset before the WiFi will work.

Going to an older version (Ralink's legacy drivers) might work, but IMO
it's not a good solution for Ubuntu itself.

Yes, sort of. I went to another thread and found out there was an older
version of the ralink drivers that worked, and used that instead. :)
Thanks for pointing that thread out though.
