Your hunch is exactly right, as the photos had imported into the No
Event category which missed my eye. I deleted them all and reimported
them without a problem. Thanks for the help!

My hunch is that your Facebook photos are already in Shotwell from a
previous import and that's why you're seeing this message about photos
being already imported. Shotwell looks at the photo itself (and not the
filename) to determine duplicates.
I have tried to reproduce what you're seeing, howev
After I download the pictures from Facebook, or from emails, I move them
into the same folder that have other photos from that event (already
imported into Shotwell). Almost none of the Facebook pictures are
imported and are detected as duplicates. Do I have to manually move all
of the Facebook pic

Let's figure this out. When you download photos from Facebook, do you
put them in a folder with other photos that are already in Shotwell?
This would explain why Shotwell is giving you the message that there are
duplicates it will not import. Have you checked that the Facebook photos
