Bad path
In my case this seems to have been caused by having acroread installed
(bug 769866).
I applied
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acroread/+bug/769866/comments/54
to /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Resource/Shell/acroread_tab and things started
working as they did before.
If that works for you as well
