This occurred to me when backing up to a Truecrypt partition in Jaunty.
The partition is on a separate physical drive from the home folder.

Also had the same error, when HUBackup was verifying the backup.
I was doing the backup of my /home directorie to a external disk.
Data that can be important:
I'm using a laptop Medion MD 95400
The external disk I made the backup is a USB-Mass-Storage "Bluemedia" with 320
GB
