Actually, I just happened once more, but this time in an even more
random fashion than what I had seen up to now: the travel battery was at
0%, and the primary battery was discharging but still at 61%...

again. I must say I cannot be completely positive about it being
absolutely reproducible. I am reluctant at testing it more often because
once it decides that it goes in hibernation I can not make it change its

Thanks, that indeed looks fine. I just noticed that apport shows that
you have kdelibs 4.7.3 installed. Oneiric should provide 4.7.4 though as
update. Can you check if you have all updates installed?

Here is the output of upower --dump. I think it must be a simple bug in
the specific "critical" hook, because I don't get any of the other
warnings I get when I have a single battery discharging ("your battery
has reach a low level" or something like that).

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and helping to make Kubuntu
better. Just to rule out the possibility for upower to be at fault here, can
you please attach the output of:
upower --dump
from konsole when both batteries are attached to the report please? Thanks.
