I'm trying to update to compiz 1:0.9.7.0~bzr2995-0ubuntu3 but the
package (along with epiphany-extensions) is being held back. I double-
checked and I have all of the dependencies, but it's telling me that I
would need to uninstall ubuntu-desktop to upgrade it!

Happens on drop down menus within any applications, right click on desktop,
press esc, leaves artefact.
Open nautilus, click on appmenu to view any drop down option, closing it leaves
artefact.
Open gedit, close via window button, leaves artefact, although not reproducable
while running recordmy

Just to clarify, this also appears to be occurring with tooltips in
Firefox, although with these only the latest one continues to cast its
ghosted shadow.
The shadows appear above all other windows on all desktops.
