@PeggySue, your issue was different and likely due to an interrupted/failed
package installation. If you're experiencing it again, then use the bug
report
Running Lucid 10.04 Alpha 1 on Dell Vostro 1000, AMD 64 X2.
This affected me too but only on the first usage. The error message,
which I copied to the paste buffer, was lost. I followed the error
message's instruction to run sudo dpkg --configure -a and all has been
well since.

It was just that one time. I've run it several time since and had no
problems. Sorry I can't give you any more info.
