You have a good point there; indeed there is a lack of consistency in

I don't believe that this is the wished behavior. You see, go back to
the View menu and click other options there. Also, change from the List
view to the normal icon view. ALL these options "stick", and it's only
the "show hidden files" that doesn't. If it is the wished behavior, then

I don't think this is a bug, but the wished behaviour.
Selecting "show hidden files" or pressing ^H should only affect the current
window.
Actually, I would be surprised if it was different in previous versions.

I honestly could not reproduce your bug, hence the reason I asked for
the steps and for the version number. Your follow up comment shows how
you have noticed a point of potential confusion too.

This is not rocket science to require step by step info. Open a nautilus
window and tell it to show hidden files from the View menu. Then close
that window down. Open a new nautilus window. The hidden files are not
visible again, which means that the option did not stick for good, but
