I have exactly the same problem on my PC using a GTX460. I have no idea
if the problem is inside LightDM or the nvidia driver. The latter works
perfectly once started manually.

seems like your issue is rather with the nvidia driver than lightdm...

The error to do with nv in x-0.log is odd as I am using the proprietary
nvidia driver. It also doest explain why it sometimes does load...
