Matt - Under Ubuntu 8.10 the messages seem pretty clear. I'm not sure
if the messages you had problems with in the previous release had been
dealt with by removing them or clarifying them as per my previous entry.
This does not appear to be an issue anymore.

Installing (again) Ubuntu 8.10 to VirtualBox (and paying closer
attention) I see the following

check for package to install..
Installing Ubuntu 8.10 to VirtualBox I did not see this particular
message (I thought I saw the languages / just not the downloading)
although I my have missed it being a bit tired ;-). Will do another run
tomorrow but at this point unable to confirm the issue still exists in
the current release.

Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue

Language
I just did a 6.10 install and noticed that this happenst there, too.
Naturally, it isn't such a big deal after release, as the Packages files
on the desktop CD will be current, and we do want the user to become
aware of updates as soon as possible after installation.
