Upstream is not going to fix it, as they removed support for telepathy
in gossip. empathy in gutsy might fix this though. Do you have the
problem there?

It appears what is happening is that
1. Connect to server using an authenticated nick
2. Receive message from "NickServ"
3. Click on "Room -> Join New"
4. The "Nickname" textbox has now defaulted to NickServ
I also tried authenticating to NickServ and then having someone sending
me a private mess
The first time I joined I was displayed successfully as "dsas", I then
authenticated to NickServ and disappeared from the list.
I disconnected, exited gossip-telepathy and tried again, this time not
authenticating and my nickname is displayed as "NickServ" in the user
list, I authenticated and my
