Open up the Synaptic Package Manager and install ubuntustudio-audio and
ubuntustudio-audio plugins.
Next, open up QAMix, go to Capture TAB and set it to MIC.
I am still working on the USB items. See if you can help me figure out
how to compile USB items in Ubuntu.

Thanks.
But I'm not able to select "/dev/dsp1" for my "audio in" choosing OSS
using "gstreamer-properties''...
I'm still not able to recor

sound recorder). Cont
On the beta version of 7.04 the workaround I mentioned before is now
working fine with skype and the "recording level monitor". (Ekiga works
fine without any problem and without any need of modifying ".asoundrc").
I'm still not able to record sounds with the "sound recorder" tool.

I've deleted ~/.asoundrc, now my "recording level monitor" doesn't give
any sign of activity...
But my microphone works perfectly using vlc...
