I ran update-manager in terminal.
First I clicked on check, then on intall updates, after about 3-4 minutes
update-manager came back from the grey state but updates were not installed, I
clicked on install updates for the second time and then they got installed,
this is the output on my terminal

I now saw this crash of aptdaemon, I'm attaching crash report now.

After reporting the update notifier bug, without closing update-manager, I
clicked on check, got one update to do.
I clicked on install updates it took about 3 minutes but after coming back from
the gray state the update was not installed and the update-manager still showed
me the same previous

I ran gksu update-manager in terminal, update-manager opened, I clicked on
check, it took quite a wile (about 4-5 minutes) to come back from that grey
status when it's busy, after that I got a crash message.

I tried to reinstall update manager:
apt-get install update-manager --reinstall
but first I got a crash, reported in bug #903328, then after rebooting I
get a notification (yellow/orange sun in notification area) but I can't

I think you misunderstood the problem.
The problem is not that some packages do not get installed, but that if I have
some updates (in the last case they were 13) I cannot get them installed using
update manager, I have to use apt-get.

Well Carla this is perfectly normal for alpha-1 release stage. Simply
not all packages are available on time in the repositories. You just
have to wait for the correct version to get released. This is not a bug
and as I said it is to be expected in testing so marking this as
invalid.

I removed proprietary driver nvidia-173:amd64 and left nvidia-current (it was
already installed).
I got a message from update notifier for 3 updates available, I clicked on show
updates and then install updates, I was not prompted for my password, after
about 5 minutes update manager displayed

It seems like a problem back from dist upgrade. In such cases running
apt-get dist-upgrade should normally fix that. However if this problem
keeps coming back for you then please report back here attaching your
/var/log/apt/history.log and term.log and we'll try to investigate

No, what said in #6 is not correct.
After running another apt-get update, I got update notifier notifying me that I
had 2 updates to install, but when I tried to install them with update
manager, I got the same problem that it does not install the updates.
So I tryed in terminal as root user:

the following commands from terminal as root user (after havint done what said
in #4 yesterday):
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get autoclean
