When I put the install disc in and start booting up all I get is a black
screen. The first reboot after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 I get a black
screen.

this bug, could you be more specific as to when the black screen
appears? Does it appear during the first reboot after the upgrade? If it
appears during the first reboot, do you get to the login screen?
