i am no longer using evolution and have had to move back to outlook
(using crossover) to be able to empty my attachment cache
unfortunately i will not be able to verify if the issue still exists

It's the design, it delete the mail and store a new email back to the
mailbox without the attachments. Could you please confirm the email is
gone? If it's then it's a serious bug.
