I created more than 15 partition and installed Precise daily image on the
system. This bug can be reproduced.
The partition table before processing installation is as below table.

Let's keep only the ubiquity task open. This is no longer blocking
certification.
Tim, can you test it with a daily iimage of Precise, to see if it
happens with Precise (when having a lot of partitions).

Open a shell and use 'fdisk' to add new partitions, device files would be
created in /dev accordingly. But if installer is used for partitions adding,
device file will not be created for partition number > 16.
May be an issue of partman.

Remove all the existing partitions (except two dell partitions), and install
oneiric twice without problem so far.
Try to create up to 20 partitions in the fdisk phase of installer, but I can
only get sda[1-16] in /dev.
Boot up with an installed oneiric, there are sda[17-22] in /dev.

Confirmed with Jesse that this bug is not specific to this hardware. It
is a generic issue in the installer which cannot support more than 16
partitions.

According to the screenshot in #4, installer is trying to create a file
system on partition #20 of sda, but there are only sda[[1-16] in the
/dev, that's why mkfs fails.

Hi Jesse,
I tried the USB installer for few times. It shows multiple symptoms.
The case most reproduced is as the image attached.
And the whole installation can't be finished always.

This bugs seems related to USB installer, I installed Oneiric successfully
using CD via external usb cd-rom.
