I have this bug in precise (12.04.3).
Steps to reproduce:
1. Place mouse pointer on some object in folder
2. Press Ctrl-A to select all objects
3. Do not move mouse, just right click

Disregard my previous comment. It was stupid. The reason it worked on
other files and not "1" and "2" was because "1" and "2" are very short
names and I was clicking on the white-space after the file names.

I also noticed it depends on file names (?!?!?!). I created 2 files with
the names "1" and "2" and I had a Nautilus Script to compare selected
files. The behavior was exactly as you described. I would select these
two files and then right-click on them. As soon as I right-click the
selection disapp
Hi All,
Any update on this bug. I have upgraded to beta 2 and still occurring. I
can confirm that right clicking on the text does provide the correct
menu and does not deselect all the files.

Workaround learned from bug 912446
e.g. select files with ctrl+left mouse, make sure the right click to access
context menu hits a file name instead of empty space, then it'll be displayed.
Usability pain happened more than once when a file name is short and already
selected but right click hits
