Hm, OK. Seems I've sent you on a bit of a wild goose chase, sorry. On closer inspection the spca5xx driver seems to be depreciated. As in the error log it fails to build with recent kernels because config.h was removed. Because of that, it has been removed from Ubuntu kernels and replaced by gspca

Thanks. It is normal not to be able to query some USB devices when you are not root. Your webcam does appear to be supported, but the driver is not being loaded. What version of Ubuntu do you use? If you run the following command, does your webcam work correctly? 'sudo modprobe spca5xx' If not,
