Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem myself. But I noticed it's on a drive that I
specifically:
1) Renamed
2) Have plugged into the system at pretty much all times
3) Gave a special emblem (maybe a special icon too, I forget at this point)
I don't know if ANY of this matches anybody else's particular setup fo
Should have added that the drives in question are on an external WD USB
drive.

Also having this problem in 7.10 (latest updates), and above gconftool
workaround does not prevent duplicate icons from reappearing. Seems to

Hi!
Thanks for the script, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me if I just
execute the two commands from the terminal. I have 2 USB drives, both have 2
icons on the desktop, and after running your script the 4 icons disappear and
then reappear all of them.

create a file somewhere in your home directory, and put this inside:
gconftool --type bool -s /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible false
gconftool --type bool -s /apps/nautilus/desktop/vol
I have observed same behaviour with 7.10. Occurs randomly, i.e.,
sometimes you get proper icon display, sometimes multiple icons. Unable
to correlate with anything.

I'm seeing the same issue on Ubuntu 7.10 beta 2.
I have a WD MyBook (USB Drive) an a iPod Nano 4Gb, both of these devices
intermittently create duplicate desktop icons.
If you need any more detail, or would like me try anything, give me a
