Uhm, sorry about just filing a duplicate. On
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/feisty/+source/nxml-mode/ it said
there were no open bugs, so I didn't pay enough attention.
Anyway, is there any chance of an updated package, this really degrades
the usefulness of the package badly?

Putting compiled versions of the elisp under /usr/share/emacs21/site-
lisp/nxml-mode/char-name/unicode gets rid of the problem. So it looks
like a packaging bug (that these elisp files are not being compiled and
installed to the correct location).

Just ran into this myself on a Feisty install. The character data elisp
files all exist in /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/nxml-mode/char-
name/unicode, but the equivalent directory of compiled elisp files does
not exist under /usr/share/emacs21.
