Thanks David, you mentioning my BIOS forgetting to mark the internal mic
gave me an idea. Upon further research, people with Windows 7 have also
been experiencing this bug also with the default install; I reinstalled
Windows 7 and used the default sound card drivers instead of the
official Conexan
Ok, that's valuable information. If the internal mic says "Conexant",
it's definitely on the internal sound card. But if that is, it surprises
me that the models tried above do not work. I wonder if Conexant does
something undocumented or out of the ordinary to make the internal mic
work, or if the

If it is, there's not much sign of it the lsusb -v output either. Maybe it's
using some proprietary protocol for the audio stuff.
Either way, it seems non-trivial to resolve the problem.

Hi,
The problem here is that according to BIOS, you don't have an internal mic on
your internal sound card. It might be that the microphone is connected to the
webcam in this case, looking at the way things are presented here:
