Also tried adding files using iTunes (after removing the previously
added files first) to see if this makes any difference. While the files
that were added by iTunes work fine, nothing changes when adding files
using Banshee afterwards - they remain undetected by the iPod.

After restoring the factory default settings (running 'Erase All Content
and Settings' on the iPod Touch), re-activating the device using iTunes
10.5 on WinXP, I added a few songs using Banshee.
After disconnecting the iPod music app says 'No Music'. So the whole
database syncing seems to be defun
