I'm having the same annoying problem but I've never installed any kde packages.

I removed completely kdelibs5-data and all dependent apps using the
Synaptic Package Manager and now I can open war files as well.
FYI: after doing this a lot of files in "/usr/share/mime/packages"
directory was removed (the most of them).

I got "kdelibs5-data: /usr/share/mime/packages/kde.xml" too.
kdelibs5-data is required for kate and kompare.
After removing kdelibs5-data and double-clicking on a war, I got an
error message box saying
Could not display "file name"
There is no application installed for application/x-webarchive t
does it happen without kdelibs5-data? do all the users having that issue
have kdelibs installed?

Same problem here. This is absolutely fundamental to my day job, and is
something I took for granted.
As an aside, File Roller is great for detecting and opening all sorts of
files even if they don't have a logical (i.e. a known archive format)
extension. It seems this functionality has been sadly

Well, I'm not sure what else we can report about it though, as it's simply a
working function in Natty doesn't work after upgrading to Oneiric.
