You need to get rid of fglrx if you plan to use the free driver with 3D.
Nevermind that script I asked. Just attach the Xorg.0.log you get when
using the free driver. Besides, your xorg.conf has a different card
listed (ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility
7500]). The curren
and attach the output of 'sudo lspci -vvnn' just to make sure which card
you have.

I don't see /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-core/script . I have the
/usrshare/bug directory but the xserver-xorg-core directory is not in
there. Is there a package I need to install?

I just did a system update which included an update of xorg. However,
this still does not make any difference. In addition, if I run glxinfo,
X11 segfaults

I forgot to mention I am using the XUbuntu Feisty developer's release
that was built on 21-Feb-2007.
I'm fairly certain the my card supports 3D acceleration as another
distro I've tried supports it out of the box.
