I see the same problem. To get the sampling right for pulseaudio, I had to modify the default- sampling-rate in daemon.conf in ~/.pulse and /etc/pulse to 96000. Restarting pulseaudio fixed the problem when using arecord and aplay. Skype seems to reset the sampling rate so that I still get the chip
